About Me
Hey there!
My name is Matthew, or Matt, or hey you, or whatever guttural noise comes out of your mouth as you point at me to get my attention. I am an amalgamation of the things I enjoy. After moving every two or three years throughout my childhood, I came to the realization that I can be whoever I feel like being and decided to do just that. Some days I'm an emotional Alternative Rock album that makes you look somberly out the window, other days I'm the protagonist of a cheesy 80's action movie, and still others I'm the reserved bookworm who only speaks when he has something to say. I'm also an aspiring English teacher who's goal it is to share my love of literature with a new generation of readers, learners, and thinkers.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
Philosophy of Education
Education is the most valuable tool one can acquire to achieve upward social mobility. It is my belief as an educator that we are responsible for our students’ abilities to access the cultural capital that lies within an education, and by extension, their ability to improve their situations. It is my desire to create a community of learners where everyone is welcome and where everyone understands the role education plays in their future. It is my belief that my students’ success begins with my ability to teach, to take the time to plan engaging and stimulating instruction, and to exert the energy to facilitate a community of learners, rather than a classroom of students.
I believe that by facilitating the growth of a community of learners, I am assisting in the creation of an environment that allows the students to grow and become more complete individuals. Through this process, students will come to understand the importance of expression, work ethic, collaboration, and education. My goal as an educator is not to create good students, but to foster better individuals. By doing so, students will be more prepared for their futures in both education, and life.
